Is manzai similar to Abbott and Costello, or The Three Stooges? -- zandperl 22:14, 25 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Yes, that`s pretty much what it`s like. One additional aspect is that being from the Kansai region the flavor of that region`s dialect contributes to the humor.
Yes, and the Who's on First routine is a good comparison. 66.235.50.103 (talk) 01:20, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Abbott and Costello was the comparison I interjected, and I feel that it is very accurate. Manzai has metamorphosized a lot lately, with double boke and double tsukkomi acts, and wacko acts like Yasuda Dai Circus. The Three Stooges are a bit more like old Neptune, even though Nagura played a bit of the straight man, like Moe. Oh, wait, I haven't written the Neptune article yet.... Time to get back to wikiwork. struggle 14:14, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sources?

[edit]

This is a very nice rewrite. Can the author add a references section where the sources are cited? — Amcaja 18:24, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The external links lists one of the sources, though the main source is the Japanese wiki. I've never seen a wiki of another language listed as a source, so I didn't bother. About 30% of it didn't come from a source, because it's common knowledge (only the modern, undisputable stuff like boke and tsukkomi)   freshgavin TALK    00:36, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, could you clarify what you mean by that? Do you want me to attach reference notes to individual points?   freshgavin TALK    00:38, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm not requesting inline citations or anything. Just curious what the overall references were. Does the Japanese wiki list any refs? — Amcaja 22:49, 13 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately no. The "give references" revolution hasn't hit the ja:wiki yet, and their manzai isn't such a comprehensive page anyways, so I'll bet it's just one or two guys pulling it from their heads. Since I'm working on a lot of other pages related to owarai and manzai I'm sure I'll pull up some other references some time, and add to the info on this page.   freshgavin TALK    02:03, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good deal. It's nice to have this kind of information on the English wiki, so I hope you continue your work! — Amcaja 04:00, 14 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Expansion

[edit]

The Indonesian version of the article seems to have a little more information. I wonder if any of it could be translated into English and appended here...  freshgavinΓΛĿЌ  04:34, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Etymology

[edit]

"The kanji for manzai have been written in various ways throughout the ages. Originally written as 萬歳 (meaning something like "long life")..." On the Japanese article for 萬歳 (separate from 漫才) it says its separate from 漫才-Manzai but became the basis of it.Mackan 16:52, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that's true that they're quite different, and they have different characteristics, but since modern style manzai didn't exist at the time, and manzai (萬歳) was eventually replaced by manzai (漫才), there's no reason not to consider them along the same time-line. It could do with a slightly expanded explanation to define the differences between the old and new style, I've been meaning to expand the articles when I finish some more important stuff over at project owarai.  freshofftheufoΓΛĿЌ  03:07, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Manzai Acts Edit

[edit]

I'm a rando so don't want a bot to eat my edit, but anyone with a more established account may want to delete Cocorico from the list. While notable as juniors to Downtown, nationally in Japan, only one half (Tanaka Naoki) would be even in contention for being a notable comedian due to his other non-manzai gigs. Sandwichman and Chidori might be better fits for that list. 72.203.44.105 (talk) 22:30, 17 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gen Takagi

[edit]

he is very famous manzai comedian in finland. Also he bringed manzai to Finland. so he clearly belongs in notable manzai acts Kusimutteri22 (talk) 19:14, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Just keep yelling like that will never make it heard. Nothing is clear until you prove it by citing Reliable Sources that meet Wikipedia's standards, as have already been instructed multiple times, in here and here. Read those manuals and follow the instructions. Be careful not to use sources that are not considered reliable. --Wotheina (talk) 07:01, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
here is a News article about his manzai project https://www.satakunnankansa.fi/kulttuuri/art-2000010659513.html
He also has YouTube videos about him bringing manzai comedy to Finland

Satakunnan Kansa website seems OK, but that news article does not support your claims, thus is unusable.
  • It does not say Takagi is "very famous" for his manzai.
  • It does not say Takagi "introduced" (first to bring) manzai.
  • It does not indicate how notable manzai became in Finland.

in Gen Takagis YouTube channel he documents his "manzai project" where he introduces manzai to finnish people 2001:14BB:695:FCE5:74D1:7866:A1E0:2796 (talk) 13:43, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I repeat, first read those manuals listed above, which have been specifically selected to answer that. If you do not want to read and understand even just a couple of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines that have been presented by three people, then please stop writing in Wikipedia. -- Wotheina (talk) 15:28, 22 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.animelehti.fi/uutiset/japanilainen-koomikko-gen-takagi-saapuu-kotae-expon-kunniavieraaksi/ here is interview where gen Takagi talks about manzai comedy in Finland and how finnish people dont know about manzai so clearly he brought manzai comedy to Finland Pippelimonsteri22 (talk) 07:45, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You made a very very bad move.
  1. You added that unsourced text yet again!, ignoring everybody's advices and the WP:CITE manual.
  2. Editing Wikipedia articles from another account while being blocked is called Block evasion or Sockpuppetry, a serious offense because that means determination to ignore Wikipedia's policies.
Wikipedia does not need editors who keep ignoring policies and manuals. Don't edit Wikipedia. --Wotheina (talk) 15:46, 23 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
https://www.animelehti.fi/uutiset/japanilainen-koomikko-gen-takagi-saapuu-kotae-expon-kunniavieraaksi/ : This is a good source to show Takagi is introducing manzai. But it only says he is just starting it. We don't know the result. It rather implies that manzai is not yet notable in Finland. Better wait a few years. And it does not say Takagi is "very famous" for his manzai.
https://kotae.fi/2024/02/06/kunniavieraana-gen-takagi/ : This is a sort of Wikipedia:Primary source, so is not usable alone for your purpose. I think it can be used to supplement secondary sources, though other editors may not agree.
Another problem is proper presentation. Bad grammar, bad punctuation, bad layout, bad formatting and bad behavior may hurt Takagi's reputation. Don't do that.
Moreover, now you are not allowed to edit by any account. The only way to be unblocked is, change your behavior to study hard and comply with Wikipedia's policies, and only after then perform appropriate procedures. --Wotheina (talk) 02:06, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
